Our Mission

The Shamrock Pet Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of companion animals through proactive programs such as spay/neuter, public education and adoption options. We are a group of highly committed, unpaid volunteers who have a passion for our mission and its goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it so hard to reach you?
Why can’t I just stop by and see the dog or cat I want?

Shamrock does not have a brick-and-mortar building.  We are not an animal shelter and we do not have a kennel.  If you are looking for a dog or cat you can come see and pick up today, we are probably not the organization for you.  Shamrock takes care of behavior and medical issues before any of our animals are put up for adoption, and we are very interested in their future.

We are a rescue group located in Louisville, Kentucky whose mission is to enhance the lives of companion animals through proactive programs such as spay/neuter, public education and adoption options. We are a group of highly committed, unpaid volunteers who have a passion for our mission and its goals.

All persons involved with Shamrock are volunteers…meaning they volunteer their time to do paperwork, monitor our phone lines, foster animals in their homes, fill in when we need help for our fundraisers, determine what we can do medically to help an animal, and numerous other tasks.  Many of them have full-time jobs as well as volunteering for Shamrock.

That being said, we do our best to make contact within three to four days when someone leaves a message at our office number or sends us an email with a request or a question.  Emergency cases have first priority.

What is your adoption process?

1. Find Your Match

Browse our Adoptable Cats or Adoptable Dogs to see who’s looking for a forever home. Each pet’s bio, written with help from their foster family, gives you a feel for their personality and needs.

2. Apply to Adopt

When you find a pet you’re interested in, complete the online application. This helps us learn more about you and your home so we can make the best possible match.

3. Application Review

A Shamrock volunteer will confirm we received your application. We review every application carefully—sometimes there are several for one animal—so please be patient while we work through them.

4. Matching & Next Steps

. If it looks like a good match, a volunteer will contact you to set up a meet-and-greet and a home visit. If your application isn’t the right fit, we’ll reach out and explain why. If everything goes well, your new furry friend will join you for a two-week trial period. This time helps everyone adjust and ensures it’s a great fit for both you and the pet.

6. Forever Home

If the trial goes smoothly—congratulations! You’ve given your pet their forever home. If it’s not the right match, the animal returns to Shamrock, and we’ll keep working to find the perfect home.

We take time and care with every adoption to make sure each animal finds the right family. Our volunteers are all working hard—thank you for your patience and support!
