The Story of Lilly
Formerly Known as Lady Jane

My story begins a little sad. Not so long ago, a very kind lady was feeding me and some of my friends in Old Louisville when she suddenly passed away. We didn’t know what happened, only that our friend and our meals were missing.

Then, one day a Shamrock volunteer brought traps and I got in one because I was so hungry. She took me to Dr. Hickey and he made me sleep so he could “fix” me, but he found that I had breast cancer, He removed three breasts and when he went to spay me, he found that I had already been “fixed.” He said that he got all of the cancer out, so I went home with my “foster mom”.

I stayed with her for several weeks to get well, and then I went to a new foster home where there were lots of other cats. They picked on me all the time but I forgave them because they did not know that I was a breast cancer survivor. The Shamrock volunteer that had trapped me took me home with her again due to the fact that I was unhappier there with the other cats.

I got to go to a cat show to see if I would be adopted but nobody took me home and I did not understand because I was every bit as beautiful as all those other cats. Then one day while I was on a little “vacation” in a kitty condo at Feeders Supply, a wonderful lady named “Bonnie Dugan” saw me. It was love at first sight for both of us so she asked if she could adopt me. She had to first place an application on me but it was approved and I went home with her the very next week.

My new home was wonderful! There was a dog and another cat but that was fine because we all got along great. Everyday was fun because I could follow “Mom” everywhere and help her sew and sleep next to her in bed.

Then one morning after I had been there about four months I felt bad and could hardly breathe and did not even want my breakfast (and that never happens). My mom rushed me to Dr. Hickey’s and he took some x-rays of me and found that I had a tumor in my chest and lots of fluid in my lungs. As fate would have it, my rescuer, the Shamrock volunteer, happened to be there that same day helping other cats and saw me.

Since it was so hard for me to breathe and I did not want to be cut open again to remove the cancer that had come back, I felt that it was time for me to go to “kitty heaven.” We all agreed on this so Mom and my rescuer held me in their arms while kind Dr, Hickey gave me a shot which made me sleep.

“Mother Bonnie”, thank you so much for adopting me into your loving home and even though our time together on this Earth was short, we will meet again someday.

Love,

Lilly
